Concert: March 9, 7 p.m. Grace Lutheran Church, 1120 Walker St, Port Townsend PT Musicians Salute Spring with The Rain Sonata Aspiring Concert Series to “Demystify Chamber Music”

(Pt. Townsend, WA-Feb. 18, 2013) – A newly formed duo of Port Townsend musicians will debut March 9 at 7 p.m. at Grace Lutheran with a nod to spring in the Pacific Northwest. Johannes Brahms’ Violin Sonata No. 1 in G major, Op. 78, also known as The Rain Sonata, will be a featured piece in what Lenore Vardi and Lisa Lanza hope will grow into a new, Olympic Peninsula chamber music series.

Vardi, a concert violin soloist and recording artist has recently moved to Port Townsend and says she and Lanza, a well-known local pianist, share a goal, “to make chamber music more accessible. Our aim is to perform a wide variety of works, to bring the audience into our world and demystify chamber music by involving the audience in an after-concert 'fireside chat'. We will talk about the music’s history and let people share their feelings about the pieces.”   Along with Brahms’ Rain Sonata, the pair will perform Mozart’s Sonata No. 13 for Violin and Piano K. 454, and will end the concert with the Suite for Violin and Piano by Emanuel Vardi―Lenore’s late husband and an internationally celebrated violist.

Lanza will also solo on Frédéric Chopin’s Ballade in F Minor Op. 52.   “We are hoping this will be the start of a Port Townsend chamber music series that will feature a core group of local musicians of the highest caliber, with invited guest artists from around the country,” says Vardi. The duo has plans for its second concert which will be June 2 and is expected to feature a selection of works for piano, violin, and cello.

For those interested in the March 9th concert at Port Townsend’s Grace Lutheran Church there is a suggested donation of $15 for adults and $6 for children.
