Saturday, February 18 at 4:00 p.m.Green Lake Branch Seattle Public Library, 7364 E Greenlake Dr. N, SeattlePoetsWest features international poet, painter and filmmaker, Rajaa Gharbi, born and raised in Tunisia,in a special event of poetry and discussion on events in Tunisia. Open mic. Rajaa Gharbi was born and raised in Tunisia. She is an international award-winning poet, painter, actor, and filmmaker. She has performed and exhibited her work in Spain, Morocco, France, Chile, Egypt, and the US.
In her own words: I was in Tunisia for four months after the toppling of Ben Ali to work on a new book, and will be going back for five months on March 10, 2012 to publish there the Arabic translation of New and Selected Poems from previously published works. I look forward to speaking about current events in Tunisia as, not only that they are still happening and continue to influence events in the entire region, but, unbeknownst to most people in the USA, those current events, in a country as small as Tunisia, are substantially informing and impacting USA foreign policies in North Africa and indeed, in the entire so-called Muslim world.Rajaa will be reading from new and previously published poetry but also will ddress current events in the cradle of the Arab Spring and the USA current role in the region.
