Snohomish County has released a draft affordable housing/community development plan that proposes spending more than 5 million dollars to improve housing options for those in need in the County. A public hearing on the draft plan will be held in Everett at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12th, in Public Meeting Room on the first floor of the Robert Drewel Building.  Paper copies of the plan are available at the downtown Everett Public Library, at the Snohomish County branches of the Sno-Isle libraries, at city and town halls, and on line at www.snohomishcounty.wa.gov

Here’s a community reminder from KSER/KXIR. All About Bears is the next Streamkeeper Academy event at the Northwest Stream Center in Mc Collum Park.  On Saturday, March   26th, at 1p.m., two Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife Officers will conduct a lively and entertaining presentation about bears in Washington State.  Their assistants are two Karelian bear dogs who help resolve bear/people conflicts.   There is a small fee to attend.  Reservations are required by calling 425-316-8592.

The annual Puget Sound Conference on Race is Saturday, April 9th in Discovery Hall on the UW/Bothell campus.  The keynote speaker is Dr.   Fania Davis, co-founder and Executive Director of Restorative Justice for Oakland Youth, and noted advocate for indigenous rights and social justice.  Everyone is welcome.

Here’s a community reminder from KSER/KXIR. The Veterans One-Stop Resource Center is open in Lynnwood to assist veterans and their families. The center offers medical and employment assistance, career transitions and referrals to Veterans Affairs.    They are open every Tuesday  and the 1st Wednesday of the month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Verdant Community Wellness Center.   For more information, call 425-670-5004.

Here’s a community reminder from KSER/KXIR. The Washington Department of Ecology is looking for public comment on a proposed amendment to Everett’s Shoreline Master Program. The amendment corrects shoreline environment designation mapping errors near the Port of Everett South Terminal facilities. Copies of the proposed amendment are at the Everett Planning Department, 2930 Wetmore. The deadline to comment is Thursday, March 17th.

Sharing Wheels Community Bike Shop offers a basic bike maintenance class from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2nd.  Learn how to repair flat tires, adjust brakes and do similar maintenance. The Port of Everett is offering a bus tour of its facilities on Friday, March 11th.  There are three tour times available:  9 a.m., 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.  The tour takes approximately 90 minutes. VFW Post # 8870 is offering scholarships to high school seniors in the Edmonds and Mukilteo school districts.  The four, $1000 scholarships, are for public, private, or homeschool students who live within the school districts’ boundaries.
