Classical Edge - Tue 10:30pm & Sun 4am

A collection of heavy's except for the newcomer to CE, James Beckel, an America composer born in 1948.  The Schnittke, when I first started to audition, I thought that it represented its name "In an OLDE style" quite well, and therefore I would not play on CE. In closer listening I heard humor in the music, not as blatant as Schickele (P.D.Q. Bach) or Mozart's Musical Joke, but indeed worthy of airing on CE... It has been compared with "Mozartiana Suite" of Tchaikovsky's, and Stravinsky's Pulcinella. Why did Schnittke compose it??? A change in scenery?
